My beautiful, awesome & funny friend just climbed down off a mountain.  A literal mountain almost…she just got back from hiking the Appalachian Trail.  Yep, that’s 2181 miles.  She walked from Tennessee to Maine.

Recently she did some more climbing when we climbed down a rocky, sandy bank to get these shots at Little Talbot Island.  It’s a lovely place, p.s.

We didn’t carve that heart but I like that someone did.  I turned the following picture upside down to give this effect.  She was looking up at me after I climbed back up the high bank.  As I took the photo my camera strap fell in front of my lens and made that red tint on the top of the photo.  I liked it so much that I did a few more using the strap and this is my favorite.

I love this one.  I’m a sucker for the close-up.

I know there are a lot of photos but they are all so good I just had to share them.  The next is my favorite image. I love how the tree looks at the bottom of the photo and leads up into Stephanie.

She says she was cold in this one.  I think she was just being wimpy.  ;)

May your path be filled with wonder…and lots of pretty views.

Have a wonderful week!

When Dan contacted me about this photo shoot and told me it was for his wife for Mother’s Day I said “awwwwwwwww” several times, just like during the shoot.  Aaron is such a sweetie and he loves to play with any kind of ball more than anyone else I know.  We took some pics at the park and at the playground nearby.

Look how cute he is…

He loved the tie idea.

Okay, not really.

Aaron’s dad set up this cute table with a chalkboard and chair…

But Aaron ran away.

He wasn’t having any of that sitting stuff.  But he came back.

and barely stayed still long enough for me to capture this:

I have a lot of great photos from this shoot but I can’t put them all in a short blog.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

This photo shoot started out as a photo shoot for Brighton.  As you will see, Lindsay was the one that ended up getting the most photos taken {not that I am complaining because she is adorable.  Why, you ask?  Well, Brighton cried a very large portion of the time.  I think he was camera shy.

Here’s a few photos of Lindsay.

See? Adorable.

and stylish…

I sure am glad she wasn’t crying!

Brighton still took a good picture even though he was not happy.

And for the record, the only way he would stop crying was if he was lying on his mother’s chest.

How cute is he?

And I managed to get a cute one in of him while he was taking a break.

This last shot was worth all the fuss.  Literally and figuratively.

Thanks for checking out my blog!

~ Carmen

P.S – Lindsey you are adorable.

P.P.S – Brighton it will all be okay.

P.P.P.S – Cant we train babies to stop crying when we say the word “treat”?

Amanda Ayres recently contacted me because she’s creating a new website and she wanted some photos of herself sporting some “different looks”.  She is an actress and has been in several different things including The 48 Hour Film Festival in 2009 (where she won best actress).  Check out her IMDB.  She has also done some commercials for Pepsi, McDonald’s, and has done some ad’s for Hospice and many many other things!

Meet Amanda.

You think it was hot in this hat & coat ensemble in Hemming Plaza?  It was 77 degrees.  The show must go on?

This one was taken in the lobby of The Carling.  Hot for teacher?  Or secretary…?   :)

this photo had a vintage feel to me so I edited as such

Standing on rooftops…

I really really really think she looks like Penelope Cruz in this photo!  (some guy was yelling at us in the background)

Thanks for viewing!

P.S. – I never really know how to end these

P.P.S ~ Stay tuned for the Black Swan photos we did right after this series of photos

Everyone in this family has a name that begins with the letter “J”. Isn’t that cool? I thought it was. :)  Here are a few shots from the day.

To say Josh Jr. was completely excited to be able to put his hands in the ocean on the other side of the United States is an understatement.  (they are from California!) Here is what our day looked like.

And this is what they drew in the sand. It said “Our Family” and had a <3.

Josh Jr. & Jaylee.  Josh was not especially excited about individual portraits (10-year olds!) but managed a smile.

…and Josh & Jaime (don’t you just love the way her name is spelled?)

I realize there isn’t a lot of “color” in these photos but I found myself editing them with brown tones and black & white.  I love the soft feel.

…and Jamie & Jaylee

I am loving the look on Jaylee’s face.  Big time.

Hope you enjoyed!

~ Carmen

P.S – Josh had tattoos on both of his feet that I (of course) had to take photos of.  He explained that in the Navy a rooster and pig on the ankles are to prevent a sailor from drowning.  I hope we never have to see if that’s true.

I am very lucky to have discovered a wonderful second shooter to help me photograph weddings.  I would like to introduce Jeff.  Here is a little more about him…

Where were you born?

I grew up in Arlington, Texas. Arlington is a large city of about 400,000 people, and is about halfway between Dallas and Fort Worth. I’ve lived in the Jacksonville area for about seven years now, and I love it here. I can’t see myself ever wanting to leave.

What is your favorite thing about photography?

Photography allows me to express myself and my love for life, and the beauty of people and nature through pictures. Photography allows us to “tell our story”, so to speak, and to read others’ stories as well.

How long have you been taking photos?

I’m in my seventh year as a photographer. I started out shooting film, of course, and I’ve been shooting digital for about a year and a half now.

What do you like to do besides take pictures?

I’m an avid kayaker, outdoorsman and I love to fish.

What type of camera equipment do you use?

I’ve used several different bands of equipment and still do. Currently, I mostly use Nikon, but the equipment really doesn’t matter as much as the storyteller behind the camera.

What do you like about shooting with Carmen?

Carmen and her work are inspiring to me because she shoots with feeling and uninhibited passion, following her true calling. It shows in the way she is able to tell and interpret every story, situation and person she photographs, and the way she is able to convey the most beautiful aspects of people and this world we live in.

If you ever meet Jeff the first thing you will notice is his great smile.  He is genuinely kind and thoughtful, always putting others before himself which, to me, makes him stand out in a crowd.

~ Carmen

P.S – The other thing that makes him stand out in the crowd?  That cute Texan accent.

P.P.S – (and he’s really tall…get it?  Stand out in the crowd… never mind)

Monday & Tuesday I was excited about the photo shoot I was doing with Hannah on Wednesday.  Wednesday when I woke up…different story.  It was freezing outside!  Okay, not literally freezing for all of you “50 degrees is nothing you should be up here where it’s 22, etc” people but I have Native blood therefore, I was cold!

Of course I am selfishly complaining because I was not the one that had to keep changing outfits!  Luckily, Hannah was a super sport (despite being a popsicle), and we both managed to laugh a lot.  It was a great shoot.

Hannah is building her portfolio as she wants to be a fitness model.  What’s her major in college?  Glad you asked.  She’s pre-med…

This photo should be in an ad for fences.

…and this one in an ad for air ducts…

This one is just beautiful.  Hannah said she works out 6 days a week.  She is currently on a “depletion” diet.  No explanation necessary.

and last but not least…

Hannah, once it warms up we can get those beach photos!

xox ~ Carmen

P.S – Seriously.  Cold.

P.P.S – One word.  Hats.

I registered in October as an Images For A Cure photographer and there is only one more week until it’s over!  I will be extending my dates through this week.  Any photo shoots booked this week will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  This is the second year of IFAC and this years goal was $15,000.  To this date photographers have raised $26,312.  That’s fantastic and anyone that has had a loved one touched by this nightmare of a disease can share in our happiness, celebrating the end of cancer one and for all!

3:30 was when we were supposed to start taking photos. 3:32 was when it started pouring. We decided to wait it out but with a 50% chance of rain for the day I wasn’t sure if it would ever end.  It did.  And only 20 minutes later which we were very excited about!  For the first pic Zack had to ask the owner (we found him in Burrito Gallery) to move his van.  Luckily, he obliged.

This was a really great wall…

I’ve been wanting to take pictures with someone near the art on this abandoned building.  It’s a fish made from old records.

Zack says his influences are:  Stevie Wonder, Ben Harper, Prince, Amos Lee, Martin Sexton, Jason Mraz, Ray Lamontagne, Wilco, Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Jeff Buckley, Moe., John Scofield, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Ben Folds, Bob Dylan, Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson, Aretha Frankiln, Otis Redding, Keller Williams, Crosby Stills Nash, and Neil Young.

This is one side of the old library.  Cool wall.

Zack is planning a tour in 2011 and he’s coming to Jax!  Visit his website for tour information.  www.zackborer.com You can also listen to his music on his Myspace which is here:   http://www.myspace.com/zackborer  (wish I could put it in a link but I haven’t figured out why this blog won’t let me yet)

Thanks for reading!

~Carmen

P.S-During this photo shoot I think I said “awwwww” at least 25 times

P.P.S-If you visit his Myspace you should listen to the song “That’s The Way”.  It’s awesome.

P.P.P.S-Note to self: if you start the photo shoot out using the 10-second timer that you were playing around with earlier, you may feel like an idiot.  *-*

P.P.P.P.S-This is the first photo shoot {ever} that I used C1 (creative mode) with my camera.  I dug it.
