My name is Carmen and I am a Florida based photographer.

Here’s where I am supposed to tell you interesting things about myself.  Well here it is, in list form because well, I like lists.

• I find inspiration in strangers, magazines, books, trees, flowers, water, candles, music, and my puppy.
• I am a self taught photographer and designer
• I have a green thumb but I can’t keep an orchid alive to save my life.
• I have been known to space out during a conversation because something sparkly caught my eye.
• I love owls.
• I love rainy days but they make me sleepy.
• I am the queen of chore dodging.
• Favorite books:  Ender’s Game, The Road Less Travelled, Charlottes Web  and If I Found A Whistful Unicorn
• Favorite films:  The Big Lebowski, Clay Pigeons, The English Patient, Closer, Amelie and American Beauty
• Favorite musical inspirations :  Beirut, Phantogram, Sigur Ros, Regina Spektor, Snow Patrol, Leonard Cohen, Yann Tiersen, the Gypsy Kings.
• …and last but not least!  I looooooooooove my dog, Chewbacca!!!!

{not your traditional photographer}

…as a matter of fact, there’s not a lot that’s traditional about me.  Your journey is significant and unique, therefore I do not presume “one size fits all”.  Before I meet with my clients I like to get to know them a bit first, get a sense of who they really are.  This helps me intuitively guide my camera through our session.  This also helps during the editing process.  Let’s go on a journey together.

…no, really!  Skim through my images.  Everyone is beautiful!  There are certain techniques a photographer learns to help bring out the best in everyone.  Any body shape, size, type, color, length or height.  I am able to see beauty in everything.  What makes me a fantastic photographer is my ability to convey that beauty to others through my images.

 {artist and designer}

…is what I am.  You can expect I may be a bit… eclectic, donning my {beloved} cowboy boots with tights and something else that doesn’t quite match.  During our session I may ask you to do something strange like sit in a tree, hold a lollipop {or some other strange thing},  lay on the ground in a way that makes you think you are going to look ridiculous or hold still so I can take a photo of your feet.  You can trust me or tell me no but either way I promise my goal is for you to look beautiful.

{stress-free photography}

…whether I am photographing your wedding or your child’s birthday party, making the session as stress free as possible is what makes me stand out from other photographers.  This requires open communication and respect for myself and  for my clients which I have plenty of practice with. {My master’s degree in counseling helps}  The point is, I know how difficult and hurried life’s schedules can be and I want the time we are together to be something you leave feeling refreshed and energized.

…the farther the better.  Based in Jacksonville, Florida,  Carmen Cay Photography is always welcoming new adventures.  I’ve not only served clients from Jacksonville and St. Augustine but in Central Florida and Georgia as well.  My second photographer and I are more than willing to travel to your out-of-the-box location for your special occasion.
